St. Joseph the Worker
Pre-School and Gymnasium | Orefield, PA
When St. Joseph’s the Worker sought to serve more of it’s parish community, the decision was made to add an addition to their existing elementary school. The addition would allow for services currently being housed in their parish center to be located next to their school.
The parish center was then devoted to other activities such as wedding receptions, meeting rooms for various church functions, boy scouts, and elderly resources.
The gymnasium was constructed with a ‘scissor’ type wood floor system that allows the maximum flexibility and ventilation of the wood flooring. A mezzanine was added above the locker rooms for additional gymnasium space and possible future seating. The 35’ high roof allows full play in the gym without concern for overhead obstacles.
The classroom addition contains six preschool classrooms, an after school waiting room, an office and a meeting room. The large gymnasium foyer allows for easy accessibility to the gym and classrooms. A concession area with a lunch room confines eating and drinking to this area and not in the gymnasium.
