Whitaker Laboratory | Bethlehem, PA

When Lehigh University’s Whitaker Research Laboratory decided to upgrade to a new, state-of-the-art electron microscope, Bracy Contracting was selected to construct the critical areas to house it. Their selection was based on Bracy’s experience with similar complex, high-tech construction assignments.

Electron microscopes are custom built research machines that evolve as they are constructed to incorporate the latest technology. Purchase of the microscope as well as hiring the contractor had to be flexible in their project planning to accommodate constant technological evolution.

Shielding from electrical fields, special cooling needs and extremely precise foundations to eliminate vibration are just a few of the special requirements for the microscope.

Because vital research operations in the lab cannot be interrupted, work had to be scheduled off hours to eliminate disruption. Bracy Contracting’s flexible approach to construction met all the client needs.

When the British manufacturer of the electron microscope made their final inspection of the facility, they commented that "the job was done incredibly well, one of the best we’ve seen. Bracy Contracting is to be commended for their professionalism and workmanship on this essential project."
