Municipal Building | Catasauqua, PA

Spillman Farmer Architects

Size:  34,000 SF

This municipal building is the first building in the Iron Works development,

paving the way for future residential and retail development.  Sitting along the Lehigh river the building houses Catasauqua's fire department, police department and borough offices.

Sitting on the former iron works site, over 6,500 cubic yards of soil had to be replaced in order to support the new building.  Bricks were salvaged from one of the original buildings on the site and were used as accents in the new building.  Timbers were also salvaged and milled down to be used as wall paneling in the new building, visible in the photos shown here.

Other features include 11 garage bays for the fire and police departments, linear wood ceilings and radiant floor heating in the garage areas.  Railroad tracks that were removed from the site were also incorporated into the design, being placed in the new sidewalks as a nod to the sites historic past.
